Caledon Branch Library — welcome to Halloween in Caledon
The Caledon Library is beginning a Writer-of-the-month series, featuring 19th century and SteamPunk authors. We began the series this month with the works of Mr Charles Dickens; on the 19th, Maxito Ricardo led a discussion of Mr Dickens’ socially critical novel, Hard Times. A display of illustrations from the novel will be up through the end of the month. Visitors can take home a copy of a “linker” which takes them to the collected works of Dickens, in the excellent and very readable University of Adelaide eBook editions. Another linker, shaped like the pre-Morse “Harris” telegraph, offers visitors links to resources for finding out about Dickens’ life and works — this wonderful “Webliography” was created by Rocky Vallejo.
We will continue the series next month with George Eliot, featuring a discussion (again led by the esteemed Mr. Ricardo) of her novel Silas Marner, on November 20th. Eliot-related materials will go up at the beginning of the month.
The “Halloween in Caldeon” group has set up a number of activities, and invites all Ghosties and Ghoulies and Things that go Bump in the Night to come and enjoy them.
