Teen Educators meeting at Cybrary City

Educators working with teens met today at the Amphitheatre in Cybrary City, 4p SL time to network and introduce ourselves and educational interests. About fifteen educators attended, including Claudia Linden and library representatives for Eye4You Alliance Island, which is an island offering library services for teens.

Some of the issues brought to the meeting included:

  • incorporating curriculum standards and development
  • integrate SL into traditional curriculum areas
  • what to do about 18 year olds (teen grid cut off point is 17)
  • internet filtering at schools (blocking SL)
  • pedagogies in a 3D space (not just replicating schools by lecturing, using PowerPoint, etc.)
  • partnerships between secondary, post secondary, libraries, social action, community service, interdisciplinary collaborations
  • getting buy-in from stakeholders
  • keeping students on task
  • promote working with teens in SL (articles and conferences)
  • events board in TSL (Linden Labs working on this!)

Projects mentioned:

  • providing support to teachers working with minority populations
  • exchange students in California and Japan
  • library services for teens on Eye4You Alliance island
  • working with K12 system, post secondary, and corporations to develop content (metadata integration)
