Info Island Archipelago Welcomes Info International

In honor of the SirsiDynix Building Better Communities Award presented at ALA
for the Alliance Second Life Library and to better serve patrons from all over the globe, the Info Island Archipelago will welcome
Info International Island as the new welcome center for the approximately 30 islands which are part
of the educational community. A replica of the award given to Kitty Pope, Executive Director
of Alliance Library System will be placed in the middle of the island to welcome people from everywhere
and serve as an invitation to participate in the library and educational community programs, events,
and services. The island will also have symbols for the many countries represented in Second
Life with information in the country’s language and teleports to other libraries and educational
agencies from the various countries.

Second Life and the Alliance Second Life Library continue to grow and go global. Many
SL residents who come to Info Island asking for help with SL, the library, and reference
questions do not speak English. More and more of the librarians joining the project are from
countries other than the United States. Volunteer librarians from around the globe staff the
current library welcome center approximately 80 hours per week.
The main welcome center and reference area will be placed on Info International in a location
where the new main library on InfoIsland will be close by and where there will still be easy access to the
resources on Info Island .

Abbey Zenith, Assistant Director of the Alliance Second Life Library, and Operations Director
will serve as head of the planning and implementation group for Info International which includes
a wide representation of library participants.
