Info Island this week

Enjoy the Holidays on Info Island

Snow, ice, skates, trees, surprises, and fun! We are into the spirit of the season with three areas for enjoying winter fun! Info Island has a ice rink with ice towers and a photo opportunity with Santa and right beside the rink is an exhibit built for the season; Info Island International has a lovely frozen pond with snow; and the pond under the Jazz Cat dance club has also frozen into a lovely skating area, where you can enjoy not only skating but jazz and dancing. Free skates are available at each location!

On Friday, December 7th @ 6 PM SLT, TX950, our library social dance club will hold another of it’s famed theme parties! This week’s theme “I wanted to be ____________ when I grew up!” We’ll be hanging out in our tree house club, acting like kids and dressed like doctors, firemen, ballerinas, or maybe even librarians! The attendees will vote for the best male and best female costume. Contact Abbey Zenith for more information.

St. Lucia’s Day on Info Island
As part of the holiday celebrations on the Alliance Information archipelago, the Scandinavian area on Info Island International has set up a decorative display about St. Lucia’s Day, which is celebrated in Scandinavian countries on December 13th. Visit, enjoy our snow, and read about the customs (and food!) that are commonly part of this festive day. Contact Rolig Loon for more infomration.

New Exhibit at the Caledon Library
“Please Sir, May I Have Some More: Students and Teachers Digest Dickens”
12/1/07 – 1/30/08
Whitehorn Memorial Library, Caledon VictoriaCity
http://slurl.com/secondlife/Caledon%20VictoriaCity/59/196

An exhibit of K-12 student- and teacher-created materials related to the works of Charles Dickens, to be held simultaneously on the main and teen grids in Second Life.

Students worldwide share the experience of reading Dickens at some point during their school careers. The primary goal of this exhibit is to bring together a variety of works representing student impressions of Dickens. We hope the final product will offer a unique perspective on a common student experience and serve as a resource for educators and students in Second Life.

In this exhibit, librarians Alice Burgess and Lydia Bracken leave the comfort of the Victorian Age and travel to the future to explore the continued relevance of the works of Mr. Dickens for students in the 21st century. The main grid exhibit, hosted in Caledon at the Whitehorn Memorial Library, will also include Second Life objects created specifically for the exhibit by Teen Second Life residents. The teen grid site, Eye4You Alliance Island, will include Victorian-themed objects and clothing from builders in Caledon. By bringing objects between the two locations, we hope to promote learning and understanding between residents of the two grids. Caledon residents will be able to see for themselves the talent of the teen grid. And teen grid residents, who will eventually move to the main grid, will have an opportunity to become familiar with the rich world of Caledon.

This is the first time an exhibit has been held simultaneously in the teen and adult worlds in Second Life. For more informatoin contact JJ Drinkwater.
