Info Islands this week

December 20, 6-7PM SLT & December 21, 12-1PM SLT.
ELIZABETHAN SEASONAL CELEBRATIONS OF WINTER

Elizabethan times saw the celebration of the seasons thrown into something of a controversy. The reigning Protestants were wary of dancing, excess and lewdness. They also associated pageantry with Catholicism and with Heathenry. Despite this, at Court, Christmas was one of the two most festive times of the year. The seasonal customs of
winter from Christmas, St. Stephen’s Day, St John’s Day, New Year’s Eve and Day and Twelfth Night through Plough Monday will be discussed. Join Rosmairta Kilarta in the Rose & Crown Tavern on the market square. Warm yourself by the fireside as you partake of the discussion!
