The British Invasion Hits Infotainment Island

February 21st, 2008 by Abbey

Last Sunday marked the opening of the Museum of Music’s British Invasion Exhibit and celebrated not only the opening of an event but a historical month in music! Forty-four years ago this February the Beatles first appeared on the Ed Sullivan show and led the way for the music of the British Invasion that followed. Opening Party for the British Invasion Exhibit

Attendees were treated to the sights and sounds of the British Invasion using a “per-person” video tool developed by Bucky Barkley. Each attendee could select from a menu of music clips and see the performance on several screens that would appear around the museum. Information on each group is provided in the form of notecards and the exhibit includes an immersive element as attendees were able to take a step back in time to view a typical U.S. home with virtual artifacts from the early 60s. Over 100 people visited the museum on opening day, many of those during the opening event that combined exhibit and dance party!

The exhibit features eight of the major groups of that era: Beatles, Herman’s Hermits, Dave Clark Five, Rolling Stones, Animals, Kinks, Yardbirds, and Who; then completes the picture with bits on the ladies of the British Invasion Petula, Cilla, Dusty, and LuLu) and other entertainers and groups such as Freddie and the Dreamers, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Peter and Gordon, and Chad and Jeremy. The exhibit will run for nine months and include a few more parties just for fun!
