Infoisland Universe

Have a look at the introductory short movie about the InfoIsland Universe at HealthInfoISland.blip.tv!

Infoisland Universe

I am introducing the new Infoisland Universe ( www.netvibes.com/infoisland) as additional “website” to the infoisland blog. It is about using web 2.0 technology and tools to make WHAT we have, and what is said about us, visible, findable and searchable.

Introduction Netvibes
At www.Netvibes.com you can start an online personal start page and arrange a unlimited range of tools in the form of “widgets”, comparable with iGoogle or Pageflakes.
WebLinks, Rss-News feeds, video’s, slides, pictures, calender, mail and much more, including the possibility to create on the fly self-made widgets with (pieces of) html, flash etc.

I see great use of library widget in personal startpage tools and am developing this in my own university medical center library.
This personal start page is only visible for you. So far nothing special, but Netvibes offers everybody to PUBLISH (a selection of your and other web-) content to a special webpage, and they call it an UNIVERSE.
All information is visible for everybody, and all available widgets can be used directly from that site, like search tools, or be placed -by individuals- on their own personal Netvibes startpage or blog.

  • It would need just a few interested people to think about what else to include to make this Universe a great “showcase/ toolbox” for InfoIsland services, events etc.
I am offering to take care of updating and maintenance in this phase, but would advice to have one or two people that can do this as well.
  • When people are publishing on the Infoisland blog or the Drupal site, they should consider IF and HOW it could be added to the Universe.
  • There a special directory of user-created widgets, tabs and universes, http://eco.netvibes.com which I have created and published for my library and the medical library community a range of widgets.
