Human Trafficking Exhibit & Experience Info Island
Opening January 11th at 6 PM SLThttp://slurl.com/secondlife/Info%20Island/130/110/33

This multi-media exhibit will allow visitors to learn about the dark
underworld where people are bought and sold, living lives as abused
and dehumanized slaves. The United Nations Inter-Agency Project on Human
Trafficking reports that this criminal activity is second only to drug
trafficking. No region of the world, no race, no gender, no age group
is beyond the reach of traffickers. This exhibit serves to provide
information about human trafficking, but also places the visitor inside this world
to experience a small sampling of the hardships faced by victims.

In the winter of 1951, a storyteller, the last practitioner of an honored, centuries-old tradition, arrives at the home of the nine-year-old Ronan O’Mara in the Irish countryside. For three wonderful evenings, the old gentleman enthralls his assembled audience with narratives of foolish kings, fabled saints, and Ireland’s enduring accomplishments. These nights change young Ronan forever, setting him on a years-long pursuit of the elusive, itinerant storyteller and the glorious tales that are no less than the saga of his tenacious and extraordinary isle.
‘Ireland – a novel’ is the work from Frank Delaney, Shandon will share some portions of this marvelous novel with you in voice.

Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass is one of the works at the foundations of American poetry. Its expansive attempt to capture the spirit and landscape of the 19th century United States has influenced an entire culture’s self-concept, and its rich language continues to inspire readers today as it has for the century and a half of its existence.

“By Whitman, Biweekly” will provide an opportunity to look closely at this beloved work. Each time we’ll spend an hour discussing its context and examining the poetry of the 1855 first edition. The series will also give those who love Leaves of Grass, and those who would like to learn more, an opportunity to explore Whitman’s vigorous and heartfelt poetry together.
