Upcoming Library Events!
The Sci-fi & Fantasy Portal presents our January Meet The Author event
on Saturday, January 16th. at 1 pm .
Glenn Manewell ( Tristan Merriman in SL ) will read from his novel,
THE FLOWER SELLER.
Then he’ll open for discussion with the audience.
In The Flower Seller, a man owns a small, excellent quality flower shop
and leads a quiet life until the day a terrified woman and child rush into his shop asking
for “The Flower Seller”.
The Thugs chasing them can be seen lurking outside.
Certainly they can’t be stopped, or can they?
That’s when things get really, really interesting.
The landmark to our Sky Platform over the Sci-fi & Fantasy Portal,
where we can use Voice, is ….

There is also a teleport device on Portal grounds with a board next to

A Collection of Irish Gaelic Folk Stories told in voice.
Gaelic folk-stories are, as a living form of literature, by this time pretty nearly a thing of the past. Happily though a large harvest has been reaped from that crop which grew so luxuriantly years ago. Until quite recently there existed in our midst millions of men and women who, when their day’s work was over, sought and found mental recreation in a domain to which few of us who read books are permitted to enter. Man, all the world over, when he is tired of the actualities of life, seeks to unbend his mind with the creations of fancy.

CALEDON LIBRARY
Exhibit Opening – To Move in Measure
Sunday, 17 January, 2010
1:00pm to 3:00PM SLT
Whitehorn Library, Caledon Victoria City —
http://slurl.com/secondlife/Caledon%20Victoria%20City/59/196/23
Exhibit Opening and Conversation with the Curator Using primary sources from the John M. Ward Collection at The Houghton Library, Harvard University, this exhibit, curated by Miss Leslie Weston, provides a glimpse into the social dance world of the 19th century. Waltzes, polkas, schottisches! Come see how it was really done. The 19th century was a period of immense change in the ballrooms of Europe and America.
Dance orchestras were no longer the prerogative of royal courts, and dance became a vital social pastime of all classes. Complicated choreographed group dances gave way to intimate couple dances, and asin Second Life, a good deal of courting activity moved into the social dance arena. The John M. Ward Collection of social dance provides a superior opportunity to view some of the many aspects of social dance during this period, from the dances themselves, to the instruction, choreography, venues, musicians, and music. If you have ever wondered about the reality of dance in Almack’s Assembly Rooms, Jane Austen, or Madame Bovary, this exhibit is for you.

Those little darlings. The heirs to your throne. Washed and in their jammies, your children are true blessings. You pause. Is that smoke you smell? You hear giggling and footsteps racing up to the nursery. Getting up from your easy chair you discover the little darlings have been playing with incendiaries again. Oh, the joys of parenthood! What was it like to be a Victorian child? What is it like to play a child in Babbage? Miss Saffia Widdershins, Miss Myrtil Igaly, and Master Jimmy Branagh will show us the reality of childhood as well as the challenges (and rewards) of role playing a child in the Streamlands. So, no matter if you are a parent or childfree, you (okay, most of you) were most certainly once a child. Join us on January 17 to relive those lost years. A bardic satire could raise welts, and Irish writers ever since have been known for their skill in this genre. Tonight, bring your best satiric writing to share, and Aoife will have a few examples from the great satirists in her pocket. Stories in voice, but Aoife will read yours, if you cannot do voice.
