Director James Cameron wrote an 80-page script in 1994, but “…had to
wait for technology to catch up with his vision for the film…”.

Paul Frommer assisted in the filming. Entirely new technologies were
used to turn human actors into onscreen avatars. More than a thousand
people worked on the production of this film.

The film is an action-adventure, journey of self-discovery, has
elements of Hindu concepts, the selflessness that love inspires, and
what we’d like to think we humans can be.

When we humans reach outer space, will we treat Indigenous Peoples
better than we have here on Earth?

In the year 2154, humans must answer that question in the face of
extraordinary technologies .

Buried Riches – Captain Kidd is the most ubiquitous gentleman in history. His earnings in the gentle craft of piracy were frugally husbanded by him, and he has reportedly left numerous pots of money in holes in the ground all along the eastern seaboard, from Coney Island to Key West. The belief in these large deposits of gold has caused reckless expenditure of actual wealth in attempts to recover doubloons and guineas by those seeking to get something for nothing. Despite the hardships of the search and infrequent reward, interest in the subject is now and then revived by reports of the discovery—usually by a farmer ploughing near the shore—of an iron kettle with a handful of gold and silver coins in it. In sea superstitions the apparition of Captain Kidd’s boat is sometimes confused with that of the Flying Dutchman. Even ashore there are reports of the appearance of demons and headless men, and whispers of spirits guarding sea caves and heavy chests full of treasure. Tonight join us for stories of Captain Kidd and more pirate and treasure tales from the eastern U.S. Stories in voice.

Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass is one of the works at the foundations of American poetry. Its expansive attempt to capture the spirit and landscape of the 19th century United States has influenced an entire culture’s self-concept, and its rich language continues to inspire readers today as it has for the century and a half of its existence.

“By Whitman, Biweekly” will provide an opportunity to look closely at this beloved work. Each time we’ll spend an hour discussing its context and examining the poetry of the 1855 first edition. The series will also give those who love Leaves of Grass, and those who would like to learn more, an opportunity to explore Whitman’s vigorous and heartfelt poetry together.
