Discussion of Formats
--notecard books, ebooks (thinc press), prims, scripts, textures, audio, video, links to Web resources
--Emphasis on materials that allow users to interact, take advantage of 3-d world and ability to move within it
--collections space in new building—listening area, video viewing area, environments area, stacks for books, exhibits area
Committee members will investigate how the following formats are available and supported within SL and report back at our next meeting so we can plan how to collect/organize/display:
--Audio: Rain, PF
--Copyright & Intellectual Property: Seraphima
--Special format books (e.g. Thinc Press): Rain, Cypress
--Prims, scripts, textures, environments: Eiseldora
--Video: Abbey
--Links (internal and external): Adeghord, Jenna
Ascertaining Resident Needs and Wants
--Surveying residents to see what they want (library-wide, or just collections?) Can we expect this to work?
--Different user groups have different needs (e.g. newbies, builders, social explorers, business owners)
--Outreach—we all need to be getting out into the world and talking to residents.
Concerns Raised
--How do we want to organize collections within the new building?
--How will we distribute items to patrons? Eiseldora suggests a scriptor.
--Important to make interacting with materials fun and engaging. We want to inspire the imaginations of our users while offering them substantial services and information. How can we allow and encourage users to contribute or comment on materials?
--Adeghord and Seraphima will work on library catalog database
Possible Projects
--Best of SL
--New Arrivals Exhibits (especially of user-created donations)
--SL History
--Tutorials for newbies
Handling Gifts
--This needs to be based on collections plan, which in turn needs to be based on library goals and business plan
--Do we collect and display everything that is donated? For example, Eis has received a fire poker and a train created by SL residents. What do we do with donations of user-created content
--Keep a running inventory of donations at the drupal site so we can get an idea of what sorts of things we’re getting and figure out how to handle them.
--How can we highlight user-created donations?
Fundraising/Sponsorship
--What do we think of fundraising shops? We don’t want the island to turn into a mall, but we can see the use of offering tools like NoteTaker near where information is available. Issue will be raised at Business Plan meeting.
--Patrick is donating L$30,000 (Thank you, Patrick!)
--How can we recognize donors?
Eiseldora is making a map of the island and will place teleporters for easy navigation.
We’ll meet again in two weeks.

Call me goofy but seeing a mass of thoughts like the ones raised in meeting organized so very nicely here in these minutes makes me happy.
